500 Great Lakes Blvd - Closed!

WedJan262011 ByPastor GregTaggedbe strong and courageous campaign harvest oakville
On the weekend of December 18/19 we announced to the congregation that we had closed on the new property located at 500 Great Lakes Blvd. This was no small feat as it marked the end of a process that has taken over two years to complete. In that time, we have seen the Lord's hand guide through unexpected obstacles.

    Official Plan Ammendments prohibiting:
         1. Churches built on lands greater than 5 acres
         2. Churches built on lands zoned "Employment"

Highlights of the past 2+ years:

Prayer Meeting in the Fall of 2008
Many of you will remember we held a prayer meeting as we sought the Lord for clarity on direction for this new property. We had all those who attended fill out "comment cards" in order to give us a sense of what God was saying through the faithful people of our church. The result was an overwhelming sense to move forward in faith and that the extreme majority believed God was in it. Awesome!

    Price of land
After the prayer meeting when we re-entered discussions with the developer on the land. We planned a face to face meeting with the US-based land owner. The entire Elder Board jumped into a mini-van and drove to Brantford to have our final meeting. We had reached a point in negotiations where if we could not agree on price both parties would walk away. As we drove we all prayed together for clear leading in the meeting. After praying we agreed on the price per acre that we would accept. Soon into the meeting, the developer said he had one final offer for us and that would be the end of negotiations. The number he presented to us was to the penny of the pre-determined price we came up with in the van on the way over. Awesome!

    Be Strong and Courageous
In March of 2009, as a church we entered our first ever building campaign. We were determined not to go the typical "marketing" route of church fund-raising. We started with our many lay leaders and then brought the target to the church at large. Our goal was $4.5mil pledged in 6 weeks. We asked you to pray and give if you were led. You were... and we received the needed pledges. Awesome!

    Distraction free... so far
I am thankful that despite the building campaign and all the time and energy that has gone on behind the scenes by many in our church, our new facility planning has not become a distraction. Over the course of the past 2yrs while all this has been going on, by God's grace alone, we have planted one church and have another on the way. We have launched the Harvest House Compassion Centre. Missions giving continues to be strong with over $700K going all the door (that's over 20% of our income). More salvation - more baptisms, more services, more Glory to God. Awesome!

The above, is just SOME of all that God has done and continues to do. What will He do next? How will you be involved? Over 300 people in our church were not here when the Be Strong and Courageous campaign started - many more opportunities for more Harvest family members to move forward in faith.

So stay tuned for more details coming up as 2011 promises to be a busy year of ministry for the Glory of the Lord!

    Greg
